It started on Wednesday afternoon, I went into work and was told that our normal routine would be put on hold to go to the football field and clean some rooms at those buildings. When that work was finished, it was my lunch time and when I returned to begin my normal, nightly work, it was 7 p.m.

This meant that instead of beginning at 2:30 p.m. and having eight full hours to work, I was beginning at 7 p.m. and had only three and a half hours before my shift ended. I began working and for some time, felt that I would have to stay late in order to complete my classrooms as normal. As I cleaned, I began to think about the following day and traveling to Mt. Carmel, Illinois to visit with the students of South Elementary School. With much to do, a late night at work was not an option!

As I worked I began to think about what I needed to have an amazing day on Thursday and the answer I had for myself was to finish my work in full so that I did not go into the next day with work unfinished from the day before. Now, at first, I thought there was no way to do all of this work by 10:30 p.m. and go home. There was just to much. Then, as I was listening to my man, Eric Thomas on my cell phone, I decided that I wanted my success at South Elementary to be huge and wanted a positive foundation to start from.

What did that mean? It meant I was going to push myself as hard as I could make it happen for the sake of my own success!

I put my head down and took off. I cleaned, vacuumed and moved from room to room. All I thought of was the kids I would meet and the fun we would have. When I through the last trash bag into the dumpster, I looked down at my phone to see that I had not only completed my work but did it not by 10:30 p.m., but by 10:12 p.m.! I was exhausted but my time doing what I loved had pushed me to the limit to what I had to do.

I felt great about that and carried that momentum into Thursday and created the most amazing presentation I have had yet! The kids and teachers at South Elementary in Mt. Carmel, Illinois were so wonderful! I went through my presentations and every one fell in love with Barney & Lexi!! In fact, one class clapped and yelled when I showed them my print outs of five of my books. They could have cared less if there were pictures in those 1,000 pages, they wanted to read it right there! We laughed and had such a super time!

I finished with my last class when I was surprised by all of the students and their teachers together. The students had made a huge thank you card and signed all of their names inside!! As I opened the card, a Visa gift card fell out. I literally did not know what to say but as I looked to the teachers, they told me that my presentation was wonderful and that I had earned it.

Two wonderful students walked me down to the library where I had 40 copies of BARNEY & LEXI: LOST IN LAWRENCEVILLE were waiting on me to sign for the kids. I sat down in the cozy library and began to sign books to the kids. Near the end, one Ms. Holden, one of the teachers, came in with a large handful of self-made ‘thank you’ cards! There were so many that I had to use an empty box to carry them all to my Jimmy!! I left South Elementary knowing I loved what I had done and want to do nothing else!!

I left South, drove the miles back home, changed my clothes and then drove to work where I had five hours to do my eight hour job. With a big day to follow again, I knuckled down and pushed myself to being done at 10:30 p.m. and heading home.

Friday came and I was up at 5:30 a.m.to prepare for a large event at Bridgeport Grade School (BGS) where Ethan and Rylen attend. Close to 200 students, newspapers and a news crew from a larger upstate Indiana t.v. station where there to record our presentation. With my Lynden helping me run Facebook Live, we put on a knockout presentation. The Mike and Bruce with NBC WTWO/ABC WAWV followed Lynden and I back to 1 Imaginary Fox where we ran some film roll and secondary questions before wrapping up the feature.

A late lunch for me and Lynden before I headed to work and finish the work week out. My third short night, but things got done and I returned home for the weekend. What a wonderful week for 400 students, Barney & Lexi and myself! Mike and Bruce interviewed Ethan and two girls for t.v. and also Ethan’s teacher Mrs. Earnst. Lynden got to see his dad going after what he wanted and I pushed my comfort zone farther than ever before! I wish everyone a great weekend and stay hungry!!
